Anyone have a dyslexic kid? We just found out ds is dyslexic. I have suspected for quite a while, and honestly feel a bit relieved now that we know. We're going to work with a few programs that are for dyslexic kids and hopefully his reading will improve. Anyone else? How have you dealt with it?

Yes - I have three. Our oldest attended ps but we sent him to a private Orton-Gillingham tutor to teach him to read/spell using phonics bec the ps used more of a sight reading approach. By the time our next two were dx we were hsing. I purchased the Wilson Fundations program for ds bec he was not quite 7 and the traditional Wilson program for dd (she was reading well --slowly --but her spelling was horrible.). We have also used Megawords as dd got older and have had great success w/ it for spelling.

My son isn't technically dyslexic but, he has several eye issues including tracking problems which causes him to "flip" words just as if he were. We have found a wonderful vision therapist. Vision therapists deal with all kinds of eye problems whether they have just one diagnosis or many. They gave him a PC program to use at home that is linked to their office so they can see his progress. We also are going in for check-ups at this point and then will progress to the actual therapy sessions. We have seen MAJOR improvement! I would strongly recommend doing a search for vision therapy to find one in your area. Many of them will do a consultation with you for free. We actually went to two and then chose the one we liked the best. Good luck to you and your son!
