Hi,

We've just finished week 17. My kiddos loved the book Growing up in Coal Country. For some reason they couldn't get enough of it.
My dd looooooves the Helen Keller Story. She liked it so much, that she checked out several books at the library on the topic.
Both my kids couldn't care less about AGB. I wonder why. I thought it was interesting. But then again, I'm much older. :) Maybe I should change that smiley face into
I cannot wait to start reading about the great quake in SFO. That'll be totally cool because we live here. Not that I'm waiting to experience one.
Meantime we're also studying birds. My dh is an avid birder and since it's winter time there are a lot of migratory birds here. So we started reading The Burgess Bird Book for Children by Thornton Burgess. It is a wonderful book. It is filled with facts, but the kids don't even notice cause it's such a sweet and fun story. OK, I'm drifting now.
Hope you all are still enjoying this program as much as we are!

Karine,

We are a week behind you; just finished Week 16 today. It's funny you say that about Growing up in Coal Country. My older ds can't get enough of it either. We also liked looking at the sign language alphabet in the AGB book. They were fascinated that AGB invented other things besides the telephone.
Older ds also started reading a book about Helen Keller this week in LA. I think he's going to like the HK book we read for history next week.

We are also still enjoying the program!

We just finished week 18.
Ds also loved Coal Country. In fact my two older kids read it and loved it as well.
Ds also looooooooooooooooooved the Hellen Keller book.
This week we've been reading from the Immigrant Kids book. We both really like the pictures. We're supplementing with a really neat box of goodies called the Ellis Island collection. It has lots of replicas from the immigrants like passports, photos, ship registers, advertisements, handwritten letters, money, money from the countries the immigrants came from, telgram, inspector's cards and more.
We aren't doing much in the way of any other extras because ds is sick this week. Today he's just vegged on the couch watching videos after I read a few things to him this morning.

We just finished week 15. We're also enjoying Coal Country. My dh's grandfather worked in the PA coal mines and moved when my fil was born so that his son wouldn't have to experience what he had growing up so it has taken on a very personal feel to me. If he were alive, I'd love to hear if he was a breaker boy.

We're listening to Old Yeller as dd is reading Jason's Gold right now and I didn't want to do the Down the Yukon at the same time.

We just started AS2 last week and so far we are really enjoying it. I think the highlight was today as my kids started cutting out the figures etc for the Civil War Paper Soldiers. They just kept going and going while I read about half of "The Last Safe House" to them! (They really love that book). I had to drag them away from it to give them lunch and they are now back at it. I had full intentions of doing French with them this afternoon, but I think I will hold off on that for a bit before we get to French.

I signed out the Ken Burns Civil War Video from the library. We haven't started watching it yet, but I hope to begin this week.

My kids are 6 and 9, with a 4yo tagging along.
